Paragraph: Climate change refers to any significant change in the measures of climate lasting for an extended period. In recent usage, especially in the context of environmental policy, climate change usually refers to changes in modern climate that are attributed directly or indirectly to human activity, including greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, and other land use changes. These changes are primarily driven by increased levels of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, which trap heat and cause the planet to warm. Climate change impacts a wide range of human and natural systems, including sea level rise, more frequent and intense heat waves, increased frequency of heavy precipitation, and increased frequency and severity of certain types of extreme weather events.
