HOW TO WORK ON THIS ASSIGNMENT ( EXAMPLE ESSAY/ DRAFT)
Introduction Fabrics, Inc. is a company that designs and manufactures a wide range of fabric products. In the Blanchard and Thacker (2019) text, they used the example of Fabrics, Inc. to demonstrate the importance of needs analysis in the training process. In this paper, we will evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the approach taken in Fabrics, Inc. needs analysis, identify the sources of data used in the analysis, and discuss how closely the approach corresponds to the ideal model presented in the Blanchard and Thacker (2019) text. We will also provide two additional methods that could have been used, providing a rationale as to why these methods could be used.
Evaluation of the Fabrics, Inc. Approach The Fabrics, Inc. needs analysis approach had several strengths. Firstly, the team involved in the needs analysis was made up of experts from various departments in the company. This ensured that the needs analysis was comprehensive and took into account the different perspectives of stakeholders. Secondly, the approach used a variety of assessment methods, including interviews, surveys, and focus groups, which increased the reliability of the data collected. The use of multiple methods also increased the validity of the data collected.
However, the approach also had some weaknesses. One of the weaknesses of the approach was the use of a small sample size for the focus groups and interviews. This could have limited the data collected to the experiences of only a small group of people, which may not be representative of the whole company. Secondly, the approach did not include a review of existing company documents or training materials, which could have provided valuable insights into the needs of the company.
Sources of Data Used in the Analysis The sources of data used in the analysis included interviews, focus groups, and surveys. The interviews were conducted with managers and employees from various departments, while the focus groups were made up of employees from different departments. The surveys were distributed to all employees of the company. Using these data sources helped ensure that the needs analysis was comprehensive and took into account the different perspectives of stakeholders.
Correspondence to Ideal Model and Assessment Methods Used The Fabrics, Inc. approach corresponds closely to the ideal model presented in the Blanchard and Thacker (2019) text. The approach followed the five phases of the model, including needs analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The assessment methods used, including interviews, focus groups, and surveys, are also consistent with the assessment methods recommended in the text. The advantages of these methods include the collection of diverse data, the reliability of the data collected, and the ability to collect data from a large number of people. The disadvantages of these methods include the potential for response bias, the high cost of implementation, and the possibility of inaccurate data collection.
Additional Methods In addition to the assessment methods used in the Fabrics, Inc. needs analysis, two additional methods that could have been used include job analysis and observation. Job analysis involves the systematic study of a job to identify the duties, tasks, and responsibilities required to perform the job. This method would have provided more detailed information on the skills and knowledge required for the various jobs in the company. Observation involves the direct observation of employees as they perform their job tasks. This method would have provided insight into the actual skills and knowledge of employees, which may have been different from what was reported in the interviews, focus groups, and surveys.
Conclusion The Fabrics, Inc. needs analysis approach had several strengths and weaknesses. The approach closely corresponded to the ideal model presented in the Blanchard and Thacker (2019) text, and the assessment methods used were consistent with the methods recommended in the text. In addition to the methods used, job analysis and observation could have been used to provide more
